What I'm listening to today..

I like to think that I have diverse musical tastes, but my standby favourite thing to listen to has to be a good combo of female leads and some simple guitars. Since I'm already entering go-hard-or-go-home study mode, I've been trying to pay extra attention to new releases in this category. To my delight, First Aid Kit released their (I think) third record last week and I couldn't resist it's charm. It's a great album, quirky lyrics and stunning harmonies. I adore these two. Bonus points for sporting some amazing knitwear.

So enjoy my favourite (at the moment anyways) song from the album and title track, The Lion's Roar! The video feels very Game of Thrones meets Lord of the Rings meets some jealousy inducing hairstyles.

I've got to get some serious note-taking dealt with, so I'm planning on curling up in my sweats with a fresh press of coffee and going hard! I'd love to hear some of your favourite music, I've recently cleaned out my music library and it needs some serious filling in.

To procrastinate..

Just popping in to show off the fruits of this weekend's (less than enthusiastic) reading marathon. It's another cowl!

It's the Gap-Tastic cowl again. It's mindless and I can work seed-stitch while reading, and Malabrigo worsted doubled up goes so fast. Plus, Frank Ochre is such an amazing colour, I can't get over it.

I also had the pleasure of going to Make-It, a.k.a the most epic and awesome craft sale, with some lovely ladies on Saturday. I spent more than I should have, and came out with some great stuff that will likely show up here soon!

Keeping Me Sane

Just stopping in to break the monotony of writing papers. After 4 hours of staring at my caribou mandible project, and fiddling with scatterplots and histograms I'm about ready to explode. I'm off to bed so I can work on my Acer cardigan and watch something brainless. My study music this week has been José González and I've fallen in love with this song and album all over again.

Making my day

I had a bit of a rough start this morning.. I've caught the beginning-of-the-school-year cold, and decided to save the University from my cloudy headed self and stay home. This gave me time to slowly do my morning chores, including feeding the fish, where I discovered a fatality in the pond. Not a fish, but a bird. Squick. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it, and I hope the fish don't get poisoned or something as a result.

But then, as I sat down to do some work, I remembered an artist who I heard on the CBC Radio 3 podcast yesterday. Procrastination set in, and I purchased Rae Spoon's album Love is a Hunter.

She has such a sweet voice and such interesting arrangements, it's a truly excellent album. It hurts me to say, however, that I missed her show here by only 5 days! Curses! I'll be keeping an eye out for her in the future, that's for sure.
