Hello, 2013

So, here we are. Christmas break is over and I had my first class of the term bright and early this morning. I'm trying really really hard not to be bitter and sad, but so far it's not going well. I had a wonderful holiday and spent some good quality time with my Edmonton people, most importantly I got to see James every single day while I was back. We ate lots, went swimming, went to the museum and art gallery, watched a ton of Star Trek (which spawned a nifty project) and got to share in each other's company. I really, really needed that. Coming back to Ontario post-holiday felt even harder than leaving in the summer. Returning to a too-full house with too many dishes in the sink (and a missing Jennie the Potter mug.. grumble) has put me off to a rough start.

So, this is how I'm turning this sucker around.

Obviously, I'm knitting stuff. James requested a new hat, and I have another christmas knit to wrap up. I'm slowly accumulating the Lopi to make Ragga's Óðinn sweater. This recently turned into a pay pattern, but I snagged a copy while it was still free. I need to do some math to work out some waist shaping, and I'm omitting the band at the hem and cuffs, since Alafoss discontinued the prettiest gold colour which is one of my contrasts. I need to ration that beautiful colour.

Not to mention the other knitting I want to do. Sweaters, cowls, socks.. I'm all about being cozy right now.

I also want to try and eat more real food. I find it insanely difficult to cook while sharing a kitchen with 7 people, but I need to figure out a schedule that puts me in the kitchen rather than my favourite burrito joint. I got a Magic Bullet for Christmas, so I'm planning lots of smoothies. Those count as being in the kitchen, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm hoping that this year will get better as it grows, and hopefully I'll grow a bit with it too.

Onward and upward!
